Binary Scarf and more unfinished Socktopia socks.

DSC01379Pattern: Binary Scarf from Winter Knitty ’06

Yarn: TLC.  It had to buy 2 skeins of white and 1 black.

Well at least I finished his scarf.  It was actually finished yesterday, and I decided I was going to make a major push to try to finish my socktopia socks.  I’m just going to have to face the music, they’re flying along, but they will not get done in the next 4 hours… it’s just not happening.

Jan. Socktopia-unfinishedThis is why I really shouldn’t sign up for KALs.  Screwed up two in one shot!  I’m going to be anti-KAL and just knit what I want.

Socktopia SOCKS! not finished.

27 01 2007

Yup… I’ve been working away on my Socktopia socks and my boyfriends birthday present.  Both items need finished by the end of the month.

 Good news:

  • Boyfriends scarf only has 24 more rows!

Bad news:

  • half way done with the socktopia socks… meaning I have to finish a whole sock by Wednesday.  Don’t think that’s happening.

dsc01366.JPGHere is a close up!  I chose the snowflakes and starry skies theme….  I made little knit/purl snowflakes and added beads for the stars. Of course I used dark yarn (I wanted it to look somewhat like the night sky, and I was using stash.) so of course the snowflakes don’t show up unless you really look for them.  But I don’t care because I made them up myself and it’s mine! muahaha!

Cross your fingers and they’ll be finished!  The first one took about a week and a half so if I really rush… it might happen.

Yarn Containers

22 01 2007

yarnbinWhile waiting to get some photos developed from last February I bought a bin.  A BIG bin.  It has wheels, and since my bed is really high, there was no doubt in my mind that it would roll easily under my bed.  I was wrong.  It is approximately 2 inches too tall. So I thought long and hard about what to put in it… and then it occured to me.  I have a computer box under my bed and a laundry hamper packed full of acrylic.  I bet I could fit all of my acrylic in the bin and have tons of room left for my knifty knitters and my spindles!  OH! That would work!

Nope.  I had far more acrylic that I thought I did.  In fact I couldn’t fit the 6lbs of acrylic that I bought for the afgahn into my bin.  So it’s official… I have probably about 50 gallons of yarn.  I have a 44 gallon bin, and another 6lbs that didn’t fit.  Oh dear.

This really made me think about the stash.  I’ve decided I want a stash, but not a huge one because I really don’t want all my nice yarn sitting around in the stash until I get a chance to knit it.  There’s no reason for that.  I want to be able to buy yarn and use it right away, with enough for a few projects hanging around in case I get the urge to start something else.

This is my dream stash.  Enough yarn for:

  • 1 sweater

  • 2 shawls

  • 5 pairs of socks (cause I love sock yarn)

  • 2 scarves

  • 2 hats

  • 2 or 3 skeins of acrylic for charity stuff

  • plus all those odds and ends left over from projects. (can also be used for the charity stuff)

  • no more than 3 lbs of fiber.

That’s not too much… and I’ve decided that I will not run out and buy yarn until I finish something something.  Aka… finish socks, buy more sock yarn! Of course when fiber festivals are concerned this can be broken seeing as how those don’t come around very often.  Gift yarn doesn’t count either.  If I buy yarn to make everyone socks, that doesn’t count as my stash yarn.  Let’s see how long this goal lasts.. heehe.  I’ve got a few years before I ever move out, this stash should hopefully be much smaller by the time that coems around.

Hopefully now that I’ve written it down somewhere…I’ll be responsible and stick to it.

Quick little post

17 01 2007

Went to the knitting group up at the Cuyahoga Falls Panera… fun group that is.  Hopefully I’ll be able to make it when school isn’t getting in the way and destroying my life.

Speaking of Destroying my LIFE!  WHERE DID ALL MY PICTURES GO! AH!

I knew my blog aniversary was coming up so I went and clicked on an older post to check the date (it was last friday)… see… school’s kicking my butt…. and all my pictures from before I switched to wordpress… GONE.  This makes me very mad because I know, that when I switched from blogger… they were all there.  Now.. I don’t know.  Hopefully they’ll all magically reappear by themselves, and if not I might go back to my old blog, save all the pictures and re-upload them.  A whole YEAR of photos…….ugh.. Hopefully they’ll be back by the weekend.

sockI’ve made sock progress.  I’m just starting the heel.  I’m going to bed now… I really need sleep.

ETA: Literally one second after I uploaded this post… they all reappeared……..My day is made I can sleep peacefully now.

ETA: Cleared the cookies went to try it again (just to ensure it wasn’t a fluke).  It’s a fluke!  I’ve known before that blogger pictures usually don’t work when things are hyperlinked… but I’ve always seen them working okay on here before, but if I clicked from my old blog over to here… i wouldn’t have noticed the problem cause the pictures and what not were stored somewhere in computer land.  BUT it isn’t working so it’ll be fixed when I find the time to go to my blogger, save all the old pictures, and upload them here.  This could prove quite interesting and won’t happen till I have a little free time… or perhaps I’ll do a few each day.  We will see.

More Yarn

12 01 2007

dsc01351.JPGBecause I have no knitting that I can show you, I’ll show you some Sock Yarn!  Knitpicks.  😀  They messed up my needle order, or at least I think they did, I’ve got no proof though, so I sent back a set of needles and I’m waiting for them to be exchanged.  The yarn in the back is going to be made into a hat, the yarn in the front is going into the stash until I get rid of the yucky acrylic sock yarn… maybe I should make the acrylic sock yarn into something that isn’t socks.  😀  That would be a good idea.

It’s going to be a looooong week.

8 01 2007

If you’re expecting some knitting content.  I’ve got none for you as of now.  I plyed some more singles today and I’ll set the twist after work tonight.

School went okay.  It’s life that’s killing me right now.

We don’t see my mom’s side of the family very often unless there’s a wedding, funeral or graduation.  Unfortunately it looks like it’s going to be a funeral this week.  I’ve been sitting around thinking about this all day, and it looks like work is going to be a great distraction.  I’ll let the media tell you, no one says it better.

Cross your fingers and I may have something to show tomorrow… not likely, but possible.

Tomorrow is Tuesday annd usually I’ve got my knitting guild meetings or SnB.  BUT!  I’ve got night classes on Tuesdays this semester so those are done until summer.  However I’m going to join the spinning guild on Wednesday, that is unless there’s a funeral.  We will see.

Back to school…

7 01 2007

School starts back up tomorrow… This means my knitting is going to suffer.  Hopefully I will manage to finish my socks for Socktopia.  I’m also hoping I can still get some test knits done.  I don’t have to do them, but I would like to help out if I can.

MY GOAL:  I WILL NOT PROCRASTINATE!

I’m horrible at putting things off… then they all end up due the same day, so I won’t sleep for a week because I’m up all night doing projects.  Not fun.  Hopefully if I’m managing my time well I’ll have time for everything.

It’s amazing how much knitting I can get done when I’m not sitting in front of the computer refreshing blogs and message boards all day.  Last night I did over 2 inches of a cuff in less than 4 hours.  Today I did the heel flap, turned the heel, and started in on the gussets in 3 hours IN THE DARK!  But all last week… I only knitted about 4 inches on the socks… It’s the internet I tell you!  This brings me to the other goal of mine…

LIMITED INTERNET USE.  Hopefully I will be successful.

I would show pictures of this major sock progress… but it’s a test knit, and I don’t want to show EVERYTHING.  That’s not nice.  😀
